Here ye, Here ye! Winners Have Been Drawn!

Here ye, Here ye! Winners are drawn!

Here ye, Here ye! Winners are drawn!

It’s the first day of December and here at MommaOh’s we have completed the drawing for the two personalized aprons. I must say we had fabulous Thanksgiving eats and I owe a lot of it to your recipes. Wow! Each one was as yummy as the one listed above and below. You gals know how to cook.

Since my husband was sooooo appreciative of your submissions, he acquiesced to my request and pulled the names from the official MommaOh blue drawing bowl. So without further aggrandizing the winners are……Adult Apron Winner is Marsha Gardner and Child’s Apron Winner is Caroline.

However I think I am the biggest winner of all this time with all the great recipes! I am very thankful to every one who participated.

Let’s Talk Turkey & Swap Our Favorite Thanksgiving Day Recipes

Thanksgiving recipe swap with monogrammed apron drawing

Well time to find just the right envelope with the backside completely empty so I can start on my Thanksgiving menu since we will be home this year. Have you noticed it’s harder to find just the right envelope since snail mail is less plentiful than it used to be? Perhaps this year I’ll use the keyboard and printer instead of licking the end of my pencil pensively prior to writing each item on my list. Regardless of how the menu is compiled I could use some great recipes.

So add your favorite Thanksgiving recipe animal, vegetable or dessert; it doesn’t matter as long as it is wonderful and you don’t leave out any ingredients. Your reward for sharing? Your recipe will be your entry for a personalized/monogrammed apron….just in time for holiday baking!

One recipe will enter you for 2 drawings one for an adult apron and one for a child’s apron. So dig out your cranberry secrets or your clandestine L-tryptophan hints and comment* on this posting to enter. Be sure to check back through out the month and pick up recipes for your Turkey Day Dinner. Mark December 1, 2009 on your calendar as the winners will be posted and it may be you! Contest only open to mailing addresses in the US and Canada.

What will you name yours?

What will you name yours?

It seems each year the catalogs arrive earlier and earlier to grab your gift giving dollars. The beginning of October found the first ones in my post box. A new, at least to our address, children’s catalog called www.chinaberry.com arrived in the first flurry. While flipping through it I found a game called Bananagrams that visually caught my attention. As I read about the game I saw it had won the Toy Industry of America’s 2009 Best Game of the Year Award and was for 1 to 8 players, ages 7+.

I liked it because it was like Scrabble but less restricting and it was played quickly so many games could be enjoyed. Although it didn’t encompass the math skills Scrabble does, Bananagram is very portable. The price seemed reasonable at $17.95 (+s&h) but my mind drifted to the scrabble games we already owned and all those tiles…..

So for the backseat of her minivan I think that MommaOh should make her own bag and fill it with recycled Scrabble tiles from the games in the basement. It won’t be the same as Bananagram but our own rules can be made and the math can be added back in if we want. I’m sure it won’t win any awards but it will still be fun, educational and if I reuse a bag from around the house, our game will be comprised with all recycled items. Yeah, I’m good with not winning an award.

Hmmm now what should I name my upcycled bag of tiles game? ‘MommaOh My Word’ of course. What will you name yours?

“All the little birds on J-Bird Street love to hear the robin goin’ tweet tweet tweet….” Yeah MommaOh is tweeting on Twitter. Will technology show no mercy on those of use who are at the top of the hill (age wise) trying to enjoy the view? Well until that happens you can find out what’s going on with MommaOh on twitter now. My MommaOh moniker was already claimed by another so I am MommaOhcom. If you tweet I’d love to hear from you!

CandyCorn headband which can be monogrammed for the perfect treat!

CandyCorn headband which can be monogrammed for the perfect treat!

It seems September came and went in a blur. Then one half of October streamed by before I’ve had a breather to update my blog. While I still have the lunch bags on my web site I am focusing on monogrammed headbands both knit and ribbon. So to begin promoting my headbands I have 5 Halloween ones to give away to 5 lucky winners.

Just leave a comment to this post to enter. Then using my high tech drawing system (see post on September 1, 2009) I will draw the winners next Saturday, Oct 24 so I will have time to mail them out! Make sure I have your mailing address–if you believe I do not have access to your address (and are feeling lucky) please email it to me at mommaoh@gmail.com .

Shown with this posting are 4 photos of the five headbands being given away!

Practically Perfect People…

Mary Poppins the Musical

Two words to describe a practically perfect person and you’ve probably already guessed them, Mary Poppins. Yes the family packed up in the mini van the Saturday before Labor Day and drove over to the grand Fox Theatre here in sunny St Louis to see the matinee musical of the greatest nanny of all time (Unless you consider Eloise’s nanny who truly had her hands full. Ever notice the staff at the Plaza didn’t resemble Mary’s always helpful Bert and friends? Well I digress.).

I can’t recommend this production enough! Similar to the family favorite Disney movie starring Julie Andrews it is written to follow the books a bit more. A few songs are gone or changed and there are new ones. But it is a spectacular story with fabulous sets, music and costumes to match.

Mary Poppins Book
In fact it has inspired me to research the books that were used as the basis of the musical. I am listing in no particular order; Mary Poppins,
Mary Poppins Opens the Door, Mary Poppins Comes Back, Mary Poppins in the Park, Mary Poppins in the Kitchen: A Cookery Book with a Story,
Mary Poppins from A to Z, Mary Poppins in Cherry Tree Lane, Mary Poppins and the House Next Door, Mary Poppins Balloons and Balloons.
P.L. Travers, while appearing in the role of Titania in A Midsummer Night's Dream
All the books were written by P. L. Travers an Aussie who later emigrated to London and worked as both a journalist and theater critic. Evidently the author had a relatively interesting life, living until 96 years of age, as she has had 3 biography’s completed.

I hope you get the opportunity to see the musical, if not enjoy the books, perhaps the biography, pop in the DVD and for a finale….Go fly a kite!!!
